Does anyone have any tips for a first timer taking someone's bridal portrait?

I have been asked to do this as a favor to a family member..I have done amateur photography for years, but never portrait. Any tips on poses etc? It's outdoor. I'm quite nervous.

Are you just doing a bridal portrait, or are you shooting the wedding?

If you are doing a bridal portrait shoot it very early in the morning during the 'golden hour' when the light is soft, warm, and very flattering, or just at sunset when the light is similar. Use partial fill flash or reflectors to soften the shadows even more. Look at bridal magazines to get ideas for poses and props.

If you are shooting the wedding, don't! This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for the couple and you should not agree to do it if you have no experience. You need to work as an assistant to a wedding photographer to learn how to do it right before you do a wedding on your own. Source(s): Camera Club Educational Coordinator

Make sure the males don't put their hands in front of their private areas, hands to their sides. Try to have everyone stand at an angle when you are taking the portraits. It makes people look thinner. Also use a fill flash, it gets rid of the shadows under the nose and eyes. Don't have people looking into the sun, they'll squint. Have the sun off to the side or take the photos in the shade. As to poses, just check out some wedding photographer websites and see what they do. Most shots are pretty standard.
Make sure when taking pictures outdoors that you know where the sun is sitting at. The sun reflex differently on the person or "object" if you have them say directly in front of the sun or your off to the side shooting up from the ground...Try going outside before the wedding and take pictures of different objects or even your friends (sitting in one spot the whole time) and just move around them...So you can get the hang of it (but if you already know this im just bablin haha). A lot of brides ive seen do the whole sitting on a patch of greeen grass with flowers all over the place with their dress pulled out around them...Very pretty...There are many other poses (try going to a photography website) but ive already written a story...SO hope i helped?
