Photography portfolio? |
i would love to put together just a basic portfolio for my photography. i have no idea where to start, how to do it, or even what kind of photos to put in there. should i stick to one theme in the pictures i.e portraits ... i have been photography for a long time but only late 2006 have i gotten into it as a possible future career and hobby. please any advice would fab!!! Your portfolio should be varied (black and whites, color portraits scenery etc) People who look over portfolios for schools want to see that a photographer can take a wide range of photos and not just one genre. Keep in mind that your portfolio will expand in time. You may want to have someone with photo experience (a teacher, photographer etc.) look over the photos before you add them. If you have a web site you can upload the photos and perhaps have people vote on which should go to your hard copy portfolio. Source(s): Photographer www.betterphoto.com Concept, concept, concept. I've done loads of cold calling and portfolio drop offs int he past couple of years. Most of the feedback I get is that potential employers and clients want to see a certain connection between the photos you present. Not so much visually, but at the very least a single conceptual "tie that binds" So, don't so much stick to one genre of photography....but also, don't do a 100% shotgun approach either. Work somewhere in the middle, where all of your photos are saying something about an underlying concept. Also, it helps to have a bit of education under your belt..an A.A. or BFA goes as LONG way to get you a good job. It's a tough one out there, good luck. |
