Could you give me some links for books of photography portraits? Richard Avedon has done some great celebrity photographic works, but "In the American West" is a body of work which was more focused on non-celebrities and his most acclaimed. August Sander is know for his documentary photography. It's an interesting sociological study. "People of the Twentieth Century" Cindy Sherman is known for her dramatised "self-portraits". If you click on her name in the Wikipedia list, her entry will have a list of her books. David LaChapelle is a photographer who produces hyper-sexualized candy land portraits of his celebrity subjects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/david_lacha... Though he's not listed specifically as a portrait photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto did a series of portraits of actual wax figures of famous historical people which is just eerie and hilarious: http://www.amazon.com/sugimoto-portraits... Those are the only ones that immediately come to my mind with books published of their portrait works. You could probably explore the Wikipedia list and find out more about the various other artists.
