I want to try portrait photography. What equipment do I need?

Well it depend on how serious you are and your budget.

For starters any of the newer point a shoot digital will get you started. With these you can practice seeing your shot, composing and working with basic lighting situations.

If you are a bit more serious and have a few bucks I would suggest one of the lower end SLR digital cameras. The Canon Rebel XT (D350) is great one to start with. You can buy it in the kit form for less than $900.

From here the sky is the limit!

Some thing you also may wish to look into is a basic class either live or online.

The U.S. Canon website offers some basic lessons on line for free.
