Product photography? Soon to part of the past??

Personally I don't think so, what do you think?

Somehow I imagine that having product photographs that look like everyone else's product photographs (IE, what would be produced by such a machine) wouldn't appeal to companies serious about their advertising.

Devices like that are just the same as "sell it on eBay light tent kits" and jewelers' light-boxes. It may be "good enough" for some, but it's no substitute for real photography.

You know, that machine is really cool, and would cut down on turnaround time for designers like me who need product shots for spreads and such, but a machine can never replace a human being. A photographer can always add that extra special something in a shot, even if it's something as dull as a blender, that a hunk of metal could never understand.

That machine is only good for stuff that needs to be shot on white anyway...there is always going to be a need for the lifestyle shots.

Not as long as people have something to sell!!!!! and we will always have something to sell or buy!

I seriously doubt it.

To help quell your worries, visit shutterbug.com and search for the article "Legal and Business Practices for Digital Photography" by Maria Piscopo. Its in the Feb. 2008 issue. It is sub-titled "On Guidelines, Licensing, and More From ASMP's Judy Herrmann".

Wow, another money making gadget...

Not to worry, you still need to know how to operate a camera for adequate DOF, and exposure, and my bet is you'd have to shoot a whole lot of toy cars to pay off that rig. Might come in handy for jewelry and stamp collections, but can you fit a kayak in there, how about a gas grill, or a mountain bike ???

I'm not sure there is a need to lose sleep just yet...

sometimes you scare me.... this is one of those times....
