Well, I like taking pictures a lot and my mom told me I should consider it as a hobby. I've been thinking about it, and decided that i should give it a try. i have a pretty good camera, it's um..

anyway, how do I start off on this hobby?
my school has an elective about photography and I chose it. But is there anything else I can do and is there any other equipment I need?

Also, this is my first picture ever taken with my new camera.
please tell me what you think!

If you want to consider pursing photography as a hobby, ditch the point and shoot, and find yourself a camera with MANUAL settings. If you're really serious, you need to learn about aperture, shutter speed, etc. A digital point and shoot with manual settings would be a great start, then you can move onto an SLR in due time.

But always remember, the photographer makes the photograph stand out with great composition and dedication, not the camera.

Good luck!

The camera you linked to is digital. I am afraid that is not photography but graphic design.

Take a class in Art 101 and Photography 101, read some books, your equipment is fine, and practice.

If you feel like you are serious then look into getting a Canon AE-1 or a Mamiya RB67. That is photography.

someone once told me to not worry about all the technical stuff and just have fun....take pictures YOU like....=)

have fun!

There are several photography magazines that come out every month. It's good to look in those to study how other people work. The articles also give you ideas about what equipment what could use, and the stuff you don't need. It's always fun to study someone elses work. I found that the most frustrating thing about photography is studying your own work. I always found things I wished I had done a bit different. So I end up going back and shooting the same things two and three times.
