Is this external hard drive good?

I know nothing about external hard drive brands because I have never had one. I have a lot of important data on my oldest (2002) computer that needs to be transferred before the computer dies. I have two new laptops and even though they have large hard drives I want it all my important data separate onto an external hard drive.

Here is a link to a product I am looking into.

This one as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

Is this particular hard drive something that will hold 3,500 (average of 4mb each) songs, 2000 photos ( about 3mb each), and some other important programs like photo shop etc. Or do I need to go bigger in size. I do photography and my work is very important and it is crucial that I do not lose my stuff. (Everything is already backed up)

Don't tell me I'm stupid. This is a plain simple question about an area that I have no experience in.

thanks in advance.

Here is another link of a bunch. At this time I don't want to spend more than $150 unless I truly have to.

I looked at all the drives and the one I would recommend is the Western Digital My Book Essential at $119. With everything that you're wanting to put on there 500GB should be plenty and it's under $150. Good luck!

well external hard drives are great for portability and ease of transfer from comp to comp and they are cheap enough, not cheaper or faster than internal ones though, but you could spend no money and back up to cd or dvd and be fine

i would go with the first choice. its way more than enough memory you'll need to save that. with your songs and photos you only need about 20+g anyway. =)
