Is black and white photography still a big thing? and who is a good supplier? |
does anyone use harmen products? (was ilford)? ive used some of there other products and there very good. I think B&W is making a comeback. Color photos only last for 20 or 30 years, and the problem with digital photos is that no one knows if the current technology will be around even 10 years from now. B&W last decades without fading if they are properly taken care of. I can't help with the supplies, but if there is a college near you, the journalism or art department will probably have a black and white photo lab. They might be able to recommend good local suppliers, and good brands. (-: You might even be able to take a class to refresh yourself. Another good source would be if you talk to a local photographer. They take pictures in color, but a lot of them really like photography and are happy to talk to a fellow enthusiast -- and your taking B&W may not be viewed as a threat to the business. www.silverprint.co.uk can supply everything for b+w processing, printing, finishing the whole thing. b+w is still relatively big, many people, like me, use it in conjunction with digital workflow. I use digital for nearly everything, but i still use b+w film for night photography. due to it be able to be manipulated in the darkroom to get the results easier than if i did it in digital. slide film is still the thing though. can't beat it. for thing like family photo you still see a lot of them but prob most people use digital then after taking it they can look at it in colour or b/w or even sepia before deciding whith one they like or have all three kind Sorry, I don't know a lot about photography, but i think black and white photo's look great. |
