What are products and services sold at a photography company? |
What are products and services sold at a photography company? If you are a photographer...then your product is the images you are taking and the service is actually taking the images for your clients. Could be special events, portraits, pets, sporting events, or new product lines. If you are not a photographer...the product is other peoples images and the service provided is the sourcing of those images. Depends on the type of work being done. There's 3 basic categories- commercial (ads, brochures, cereal boxes, etc.), editorial (magazines, newspapers, websites), and consumer (weddings, portrait studios, etc.). Commercial and editorial really don't sell anything physical (though of course the image needs to get to the client via film, FTP, CD, etc.), but they sell a license to use the image. Consumer-oriented studios make much of their profit by selling prints, and most won't even give up the negatives or digital files. Also, many photographers and studios span all 3 basic areas, especially in smaller markets. NY and LA types usually get pretty specefic about the services they offer. |
