Im interested in a semi professional cam. Im down to 2 choices. Canon EOS 30D/ Nikon D40X. What do you think? |
Both of these cameras are on sale at stores near my house and I am having problems deciding between them. I will be using them for mostly wedding photography and event photography. Any thoughts from wedding photographers or anyone else would really help in my decision. I recommend the D40X day in and day out, but compared to the 30D, I just have to jump the fence to Canon. They are such different cameras, though, I STRONGLY recommend that you visit a camera shop and pick each one up and act like you are using it for a few minutes. Ask the staff how the thing works, as in what controls are there for your convenience and what functions require you to go through the menu system to activate or change. This is where the D40/D40X is a little weak. For MANY people it won't matter one bit, but if you are looking to do some weddings, you will need a responsive and easy to use camera. The 30D should handle faster than the D40X. I love my Nikon's, but in your comparision (which is a bit of an unusual pairing), I have to go with the Canon. Canon!! Both are great! But now days Canon chip set, software and lens are really better. I suggest that you go for the Canon EOS 30D. Its more advance in technology and has richer functions and features. The Nikon D40 though it has a higher MP of 10 (EOS 30D is 8.2mp) can only measure up to the Canon 400D, a lower model of Canon SLR's. If you are comparing the Canon to Nikon, you need to compare similar products ... like Canon 30D to the Nikon D80 ... maybe even the Nikon D200 (many more pro features like Image Authentication).
