How much do professional headshots usually cost when taken in a major city, like NYC?

I think I found the right photographer to take my headshots to submit to casting agencies and whatnot--now, how much do headshots usually cost? Especially in a major city with many photographers??

Photographer fees are based on many factors, and a professional photographer is going to charge a lot more than a weekend amateur who'll shoot headshots for $50. Most photographers charge a creative fee and a usage fee for the photo shoot. The creative fee is basically a fee just for the photographer showing up and shooting the assignment. The usage fee is based on the type of uses you may need for that image. A creative fee of $300-$500 is very reasonable for headshots, plus additional fees for any images you want to actually use on your card.

Be willing to spend the money to get good headshots. It's your calling card. There's a big difference between a photo that will get tossed in the wastebasket and one that will wind up on a client's desk. That difference is quality. And you have to pay for that difference. it doesn't matter where u live. it all depends on the photographer's prices. but i should warn, and photographer that goes over $200 for a photo shoot is a scam. photo shoots cost around $50 - $150.
i want an acting career, and i found out this information at a website that i can't remember at the moment . =[
Its not true that anything over $200 is a scam. There are photographers and then there are photographers, and some of the ones who are REALLY good charge higher fees for their services.

As far as headshots go, you do not need a high-end photographer to take the pictures, as long as they look professional. If you are doing the head shots for movie or TV work, don't let the photographer convince you to wear too much makeup, and do not allow him to do any airbrushing to make the photos look 'perfect'.
Uhhh no anything UNDER $150 is a "you get what you pay for" sort of deal. Thats the problem with the digital age you got wannabe photographers running around giving away 300 images on a CD for $100 bucks. I am a professional child photographer and my session fee for a portrait session is $150 NO PICS INCLUDED, and some ppl still say im too cheap. As for headshots and portfolios I dont give the client anything, for $400 they get their shoot and the CD goes to the agency for comp cards/headshots, if the client wants pics they can order them from me. Once the agency is finish with the CD that comes back to me.
