Im really confused with college! please help.? |
ok..well what i want to be is a professional photographer..but i dont know what college to go to..i live here in california..but what i dont want to do is take those PSATs..SATs..and all that..cuz i always fail them..so my question is..if i go to a community college..how is that? how does it work? and is it hard? im a junior in highschool. :| what do u think i should do? Digital photography is really taking over. Most of the studios where I live have switched from 35mm to digital photography. A four-year degree is not as important, but most of the studios (that I'm familiar with) use Macs and either Photo Shop, or one of the other editing programs. Not only do you need to know your way around a digital SLR, but you also should know Macs, and at least learn Photo Shop. I'd start hanging around some studios and see what it is that they do, let them know that you want to make photography a career, and find out what they are looking for in terms of minimal requirements. You can't fail a PSAT and/or SAT. I would suggest if you are worried that you can't get into college because of poor SAT scores that you looking into a professional institute that teaches photography like the following: http://www.academyart.edu/ph/photography... http://www.distance-learning.ca/pcdi/pho... http://www.brooks.edu/ http://www.artinstitutes.edu/mediaarts/p... http://hallmark.edu/ Good Luck!!! don't sweat about it so much. it can seem overwhelming but it's not that bad really. Probably just take the SATs starting February, April the latest. You might also want to take SAT 2s just in case you might want to go to a UC like UC IRVINE which is more well known for their arts. Community college is fine but sometimes people can get off track and linger from their college education But best bet? Probably do a few testings but most important apply to art schools like SF Academy of Art. Right now, though, all you need to do is this: !. Inhale 2. Exhale 3. try to bring your grades up 4. Don't freak out! It depends on what the rules in your state are, but these are usually pretty standard: If you graduate from high school, you will be admitted to a community college in your state. If you have at least a C average you can be admitted to a state 4 year university, you will need to take those SAT's though. As to what school for Photography, I can't tell you. You need to check out the curriculum listings for the institution. With what you are saying though, you likely will not be able to pick and choose too much. -Dio Hey, I noticed you said you live in California and you don't want to talk the SAT's etc. I would suggest applying to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco? They don't require SAT scores and its really easy to get into because they have a open admissions policy! I'm going there this fall, and um you should check it out because its not that expensive but once you get in you have to work really hard because there is alot of competition amongst the students. Best of luck My local newspaper had an article about a guy here who has recently burst onto the photography scene in a big way. He's 27 now. He got a gift camera when he was 15, but didn't to anything with it until he bought a digital camera just three years ago. Check out what he's done since. He's entirely self-taught and never took any courses in photography anywhere. Maybe all you really need is the desire, and then be patient, diligent, and keep trying to improve. Worked for him. He's Marc Adamus. http://www.marcadamus.com |
