Editing software...What are the advantages of Adobe Photoshop over Gimp? |
Could Gimp be used by a professional photographer with adequate results? We run a photo lab and portrait studio and Photoshop is absolutely necessary to the business. ALL of the "how to's" and tutorials are directed toward Photoshop users. When you get in a jam there is always some info available on line on how to solve the problem. GIMP, on the other hand is fine for general image editing and minor problem solving, but you will be pretty much on your own as to the processes involved. Free IS good! Be sure to check out Photoshop 6 ( "last years version" ) at Amazon.com and Ebay. It sells for under $100 and can be upgraded to the latest version if you decide to. http://cgi.ebay.com/adobe-photoshop-6-0-... Purchasing the rights to an older version of Photoshop and then upgrading is a technique used by a lot of students before "student" or academic versions of software became available. If you are a student at a recognized community college or university, you should be able to find Photoshop in the school bookstore or qualify to purchase a copy via the Internet.
