In Your opinion, are digital pix pretty crappy looking compared to REAL pictures??

what do you think about that?
or ya think they are both pretty good?
just curious, esp. for anyone out there who considers themselves a professional photographer

They are both pretty good.

Each has its own drawbacks.

Film has grain and digital images have noise. They both behave in a similar way. If you shoot low ISO film or have the camera set at a low ISO, there will be less grain/noise.

As you enlarge both, the grain/noise will become more obvious.

The main drawback to digital is the overhead to the photographer.

Professional level film cameras can be used for decades.

The digital's must be replaced about every three to four years because of the demands of the clients. The cameras themselves will probably last just as long as film cameras, mechanically speaking.

I shoot most of my digital work in the RAW mode, so there is a lot of information in the image file. One would have to enlarge the image to over 4x6 feet to get much pixelation. Source(s): Editorial, sports and glamour photographer
It all depends on the quality of the camera and also the talent of the photographer. Then there is the photo paper and printer to be considered.

We have a digital camera and a 35 mm Nikon and we like them both. The good thing with a digital camera is that you can see your pictures right away.
Digital doesn't do as well with things like smoke and fog, or subtle gradations in color . There is actually more information on film . But it's constantly getting better
I am a professional and I am quite happy to get away from film. Any fine professional knows that the quality comes in the editing process. Take 100 pictures and choose 1 out of the 100. That is how you get fine pictures. Digital lends itself to this kind of thing since the expense of taking more pictures is negligible as compared to expensive film.

I would not consider going back to film, but that is just my opinion.
the technical and artistic skill of the person taking the picture is way more important than what kind of equipment is used. even a cheap digital camera in the right hands will deliver amazing results. a 4X5 view camera in the wrong hands will yield un-bearably bad pictures.
I'm a pro-photographer, shooting mostly digital.
