What is the best All-around digital camera for under $250 dollars? |
Okay so i've been looking at the FujifilmS700, but I have some qeustions before I buy. If someone could tell me in simple terms what exactly I should be looking for in a camera. My main concerns. I want a camera with a great optical zoom. I want a camera that has a good screen and easy to use menu's. I want a camera that can be set to take timed pictures. Like I can set it and walk away and it will take a picture in so and so seconds. I want good clear pictures with action shots. I want good video with audio. One other thing that confuses me is the memory..what type of memory should I be looking for. And anything else that might be helpful when buying your first " real" digi. camera. I'm looking to go to school for photography so I need it to be a really good camera. I don't want something a professional photographer wouldn't even give the time of day. So with that in mind, people help and give me answers!. Well you got a pretty good question there since you already know what you want. First of all, if you want to get into photography class, it would be recommendable to get a film (non digital) SLR camera instead. Film cameras like the Canon Rebel or the Nikon FM10 are quite affordable nowadays and it'll be very helpful for you in the long run. However if you still want a digital camera anyway... I would imagine most recent camera (especially the leading brand one) would have a good screen, user friendly menu, have timer function, takes good picture and somewhat acceptable video. You mention you want a great optical zoom - most compact camera only have 3x-4x optical zoom. If that is enough for you, then get these kind of camera because they're tends to be cheaper in price. However if you want 6x optical zoom or so, you're gonna need an advanced point and shoot. They're larger in dimensions and generally more expensive. If you want a compact, I think you're good with a Powershot A570 IS. It has all the options you want , have 7 megapixel sensor and 4x optical zoom and there is a manual mode so you can learn things out with the camera. At 7 megapixel, I would think the camera is perfect because sometimes you'll get more noise with higher megapixel camera of that kind. Also, the price is pretty attractive (less than $200). If you want more than 4x optical zoom, my choice would be the Canon Powershot S5 IS - it's somewhat more expensive but the S5 is geared to enthusiast so you'll get your money worth. The S5 IS has everything you need with 12x optical zoom, 8 megapixel sensor, it's pretty fast for its class, and when you want to upgrade to an SLR camera someday, you'll be thankful because the S5 is pretty similar to an SLR camera. The only drawbacks is that the price is somewhat high at $360-$450 depending on the seller. As for the memory, I don't think you have to worry about that at this point. Most camera nowadays uses an SD card, but if you wanted to be sure, just get the camera first and make sure what type of memory does it takes. Or buy it at a camera shop when you buy your camera. The store clerk will know what type of memory it takes. For me, I'd take the largest memory I can afford - 4 Gb would've just perfect. Less if I don't have the budget. Well, good luck. |
