Photography...?

I'm seriously interested in becoming a professional photographer - I'm taking classes in college starting August 20th; can anyone give me an idea of what my first professional camera should be? A price range and any additional information on anything else would be a great help - thanx in advance!

First pro camera....... your best bet would be a NIKON DSLR (Digital SLR), followed by the Fuji S5.

Check out this section on Steve's Digicams to see what's out there, though the Nikon D40 would probably be your best bet to get started.... perhaps followed later by the D200 (or whatever's replaced it by that time):

Check first with your college professor/instructor, to see what you will be needing. Some classes require a 35mm film camera, and you will learn darkroom techniques. Others may be entirely digital.

When I took photography in college, most students used very basic, manual 35mm cameras, which forced us to learn how to manipulate the settings ourselves. The old standard was the Pentax K1000. But again, your instructor is your first stop--you may purchase something to get started, and upgrade later to a pro level camera. Prices for those can be almost limitless!

Good luck!
Definitely an SLR - Decide if you think you can afford a Digital SLR - (I love Cannon but most of the big names put out a great product.) If you can't afford the $500 + for a DSLR, then a film camera will start you in a good direction starting at $100. My first was a Pentax K 1000 but the Canon Rebels are good too. Bear in mind that whatever brand you buy, you're going to want to keep buying lenses in that same brand, and most of the digitals and film cameras will fit the same lenses so you can upgrade cameras as long as you don't change brand.

And if you're going to go for a film camera, don't be afraid to buy used, those film SLRs will keep going for decades as long as they are clean (unlike their digital counterparts.)
I do some photography for my company.
Nikon D70! They're quite expensive (800-1000) then you have to buy the lenses (AH!) photography is an expensive "career" and it's not that hm, how would u put it... i dunno you might get a gig making 1200 but that might be the ONLY thing you do all month.. get what I'm saying? IF you can afford that then goood luck!
I used to want to be a photographer, too.
olympus is a nice digital and good lenses, and the e 500 is around 7-800 bucks. good price for a slr with two lenses included and a charger.
