Looking to buy a semi-professional camera for a beginner. Any suggestions? |
I'm an amateur/beginner photographer looking to get a good semi-professional camera which is not outrageously expensive. What would you suggest? Do you want the ability to change lenses? This is really something you have to determine. The option of trading up camera bodies as your skills progress is a big plus for DSLR like the Canon 20D or the Nikon D70s. Both are great cameras that allow you to expand your collection of lenses as necessary. If you are into nature photography you'll want a telephoto...landscapes may require a wide angle. If you are set on a film camera a Nikon N90 is a great camera that you could probably get for a good price right now. Also don't go cheap on glass. That's like looking through dirty eye glasses. If you just want a nice point-and-shoot look for one with a good optical zoom. (Digital zoom numbers are trash....if you expect good quality images from a camera that spouts a ditzoom of 30X you WILL be disappointed.) Several of the cameras including Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Kodak make solid pro-sumer cameras. Check out the specs at www.dpreview.com This is a great place to see how different cameras stack up. stealitback.com is a police auction from raids that the cops have done. My father has gotten quite a few excellent Nikon cameras from them for cheap. Everything is sold as-is, but if you get one in good condition, it's great. :D Good luck. :) digital or film? what sort of photography - studio/landscape/candid/journa... for best value, buy secondhand from a good dealer. Try to start with a system you can stay with in the future, Nikon/Canon/Contax etc as changing systems is expensive. In some dealers you can rent a camera for a week to see if you like it. Here are some websites that can help you with some reviews and tips. http://www.dpreview.com/ http://www.steves-digicams.com/... I have a Canon 350D Rebel XT and I love it. It麓s a great camera for less then $1000. canon 300v |
