How do professional photographers become well known? |
i see ones on guild.com and their work is great. but how do they get their photos recognized in magazines or put in art galleries for sale? It all comes down to the photographer's network and talent... a good combination can get your far.... If you want to network the first thing you have to go is start grouping with photographer online or in your area. The next thing would be to get your hands on books like photographer;'s market 2007 (they come out with edition each year) and they list buyers for your work. Set up a portfolio (that is very crucial) both online and print. Starting creating materials such as business cards, small print book and always have it on you.... always have to prospect. Contact your local galleries, coffee shops etc and inquire about their photographic pieces and how someone like yourself can be seen. Hope that helps professional photographers are allready well known... Talent and networking. It's all about who you know. Really! Shot a lot of pictures, live a very excentric lifestyle, then die. By making a name for themselves. The truth is it is often a mixture of luck and hard work, with most of the emphasis on the hard work! First, perfecting your skills is important. Not that every frame you shoot will be perfect, but the old adage of "practice makes perfect" is so very true! Second, creating a good plan to market your work and get it noticed by as many people as possible. Having a good marketing plan is essential! This includes determining where you will focus your efforts - fine art or photojournalism or stock photography.
