Photographer question, what is the best camera? |
what is the best camera for taking quality pictures, for a professional photographer and what is the price range? Start with a digital camera, practice, practice. Once you have gained experience, move up to a high resolution digital or 35mm SRL camera. Cost is in direct relation to quality, low end cameras $200.00 to 400.00 US Dollars High end cameras can go into the thousands of Dollars. IT will be the costliest try anon i think there nice For professional photos without spending thousands of dollars, you want to get a good quality digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera that allows you to change lenses. The 35mm format is the most common and is also a great choice. You must be able to change your lenses for different effects. Filters are outdated since the arrival of digital color correction. You won't need them. Digital cameras come in many different resolutions. You want to sharpness and clarity of a high resolution camera, but anything over 8 mega pixels is getting ridiculous. Start with 3 to 6 mega pixels. When using an automatic camera, shooting with the automatic setting is OK but you want to be able to control your aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, focus, and color balance manually in order to produce work as a professional. Digital cameras are programmed to act like film cameras. While their is no film, the film speed setting allow you to control the characteristics of the photo as if it was film. Clarity, sharpness, grain or noise can be manipulated like the old film cameras. If you really want to learn how to take great photographs, allow me to suggest starting on a 35mm film camera. You can pick one up cheap in pawn shops or eBay. Learning on a film camera will make you a much better digital photographer, although film processing can get a bit pricey. Any of the 35mm digital SLR cameras on the market today are great. It is a matter of personal choice and preferences, much like choosing a car. Some people prefer Ford, BMW, sporty, utility, red, green or compact. There are so many trucks and cars. Who is to say which is right for you? I have a Canon EOS-1DS Mark II that cost over $6000 for just the body with no lens, but that is crazy. I make a living in photography. The Cannon EOS Series cameras are extraordinary in my opinion. I have had several. They are practical, versatile, and relatively inexpensive for their performance. They start at about $600. Remember this!... If you learn how to see and control light and composition in a photograph, you do not need a professional camera. Anyone can shoot great pics with a $5 disposable camera. If you can't afford a fancy camera, buy what you can afford. You can buy used digital cameras for $20 at garage sales. Don't worry about fancy features. Just learn to take pictures. The expensive camera you want will come to you on it's own. Study photos in books and magazines. Notice how they are composed and cropped. Go to local shows. Public libraries often have photography displays. You can't take too many photos! Snap pictures of your little sister, the clothes line in your back yard, a bug, your boyfriend, school sporting events, your neighbor's dog, railroad tracks, a dandelion, a reflection in still water or yo' mama! Practice, practice practice!!! .
