I am looking for a good nikon or canon cameras?

I am a beginning photographer who is interested in getting better and better at photography. So I'm decided I really want a nice professional camera.
I have looked at the Canon Digital XTi,
the Nikon D40 and Nikon D60(probably out of my budget). I am on a budget because I am young and i cannot afford more than $600..maybe a little over. But I fell in love with Nikon D40. Do you have any suggestions and good photography cameras in my budget as well as the quality?
thanx!

nikon D40 is a good 6 megapixel camera, but you'll also have to consider the canon xti with 10 megapixel.. and has probably taken an edge over the D40..

if you want, you can upgrade for a little to the Nikon D40X..so that you can stick with your choice for nikon d40 variants..

here's a review and verdict for you of the canon xti, nikon d40 and d40x and decide w/c one fits for you.

good luck

The D40 is an excellent entry level camera

Once you can get some cash flow and buy additional lenses; there are 28 other new lenses available by Nikon.

Goggle Ken Rockwell and you will gather a wealth of good information on using and buying DSLR's as well as all the lenses available for them

Hi, I'm an avid Nikon fan and recently did some research for two friends and found the latest Nikon Coolpix P80 to fit the bill. (it retails for $420). It gives extreme sharp pictures and has an 18X wide zoom lens (this is lots if you want to zoom) plus 10.1 megapixels.

That's my suggestion and you can never go wrong with a Nikon.
