Can Gouache paint be used for professional prints?

What type of materials I would need to produce a professional quality mixed-media project. I am combining painting and photography. I was thinking of using gouache paint for the painting aspect; is it high enough quality to be used "professionally?" If not, what are some other paints that are versatile and of professional quality? Also, should I use canvas or something else?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Gouache is a great paint and good quality if you are going for a flat look. That might be rather flattering if you are the photo collage. Gouache is commonly used by comics because of the flat appearance. Any paint really would work, it depends what you are going for. Oil would be good if you want a lot of shading and contrast, and if you have the drying time. Acrylic is an inexpensive way to go and give a nice variation of color. If you want a washy look then use water colors. There is no end to your possibilities. Any paint can appear professional if the work is good. You don't have to use canvas, just go to your hardware store and get a piece of plywood cut. I like using plywood because i build a frame on the back of the piece using 2x2"s and it makes it easy to hang , and keeps it from warping. (also inexpensive!) Anyway good luck, hope this helps!

gouache is an excellent paint....supplies are not professional the work is...
you may have a hard time applying gouache to photos both real photos (won't stick with out medium treatment spray) and computer prints will not deal well with water.....
when making decisions about materials you need to think about the feel of the work you are doing, canvas or wood have very different visual messages that they send... all art is professional as long as it is executed well.

I use oops(returns) paint from home depot it is latex acrylic and I get it for a couple bucks a can. I Have painted with tar and gold leaf.
let your project speak to you

Marshall's Oils are made specifically for painting on photos

example of Marshalls from one vendor.

Gouache is an opaque watercolor.
It is a good medium. Brands like
Windsor-Newton make a quality product.
If you have concerns about colors fading etc.
spend a little more money on good materials.
Reds are especially prone to fading.
A quality 100% rag paper can make a difference
in the finished product as well.
Art supplies can be as expensive or as cheap as you want.
It depends on what kind of art you're making.

Clarence Gagnon is a famous Canadian painter who used gouache. His paintings are in many Canadian museums. His paintings were used to illustrate classic novels such as Maria Chapdelaine. Google his name and you shall be charmed.
