Newborn photography ideas??

i am having a friend come over with her professional camera to take pictures of my newborn baby girl tomorrow. does anyone have any ideas on poses or props i can use??

Ok I am reading newborn as literally newborn and under 6 weeks old.

Lying in various bits of material so photo is taken above, I have a photo of my daughter on some pink fur. you could try different colours and textures, propped in baskets (laundry wicker style can plump up with some material). If you are careful a funny one in a bucket (preferably stainless steel for aethetics not so good with red plastic ...lol), On her tummy if she will lift her head and get your friend to lie on her tummy to get the photo.

Try lots of different things as what you think will work often doesn't and what you may do for a giggle can end up looking brilliant.

I agree with the over the shoulder pose the previous poster said if you don't mind being in the pics too. If she is a bit older or quite sturdy you may like to wrap her in a snuggle bath robe they look so cute but perhaps better for 5 to 9 months.

Surely it shes a professional she will have poses and props...?

a black back ground is always nice. the black cloth will cover up whatever ur propping her up with. how about sitting her with her favorite blanket or stuffed animal. that's always a nice memory to look back on.

Try blowing bubbles in front of the camera always looks cute, take some photos of the baby in the bath or surround her with feathers and teddy bears, feather boas are better less likely to be eaten!! a nice one of her looking over your shoulder with you kissing her cheek taken from the back of you, i've got one of them with my daughter when she was 5 months old soooo cute!!!!

Yes, using black cloth as a backdrop for newborn babies is effective. I suggest shooting the baby's feet with your hand cupping them, or babys hand and your hand together. Anything that will show your baby's proportion from you and just detail shots of their cute feet and tiny hands. Then putting them as a collage together with her face. I prefer shooting babies when their sleeping, they are more angelic. Good luck I hope to see them and how they turned out.

Cover your bed in white linens and put a white t-shirt on and baby naked and lay down with him and hold in your arms and the like. I also like closeups of feet. They are soooo cute.

If you live in "farm country", you could place him/her in a wheel barrow (sp?). Of course, you'll want to put down a blanket :) We live in TX so this would be completely acceptable! Look up Anne Geddes and get some ideas from her. She uses planters and all kinds of crazy stuff.
