Do professional photograhers get health benefits?

The kind of professional photograher I'm refering to are the ones that work for companies such as Lors. The kind that take pics of families and pics for the yearbook and such. Do you think this is a good career? Do you think it is better than working as a daycare worker? I have a love for photography and children. Which job pays more and on average how much do each do you get paid for each job?

They get the same benefits as other employees working for the company. Why would you think that photographers would be discriminated against?

Only you can determine which pays the best, although working for a large company gives you the opportunity to get raises in pay and promotions.

Sadly, yearbook photographers who work for other people make very little money. Is it better than daycare? hmmmm... Probably not. At least at daycare you don't have the same repetitive act all day long. Those kids all start to look the same after a while and you are just a machine pressing the button.

It all depends on who you work for. Smaller companies tend to treat their employees better because they don't want to lose them. I would stay clear of Lifetouch. Lors makes benefits available and pays pretty well but is quite seasonal. You would find yourself learning quite a bit as well as getting opportunities to make extra money in prom season and with sports. As you begin to network, weddings and other events may become available to you. What you do with that depends on you. It would take a while and a lot of learning, but in the end you could do far better than a daycare worker.

School portrait photography is a good career if you enjoy doing it, and it's a bad career if you don't.

I worked in that industry for awhile, and the one thing that I can tell you is that the work is fast paced, redundant, and also VERY seasonal. The company I worked for only employed the production people for a couple of months each year.

Expect to do a lot of traveling by van throughout your state (or however large of a distance your company covers). Also, you would probably be brought on as a seasonal freelancer, so you'll need work for the rest of the year. Make sure to get this information from the company you're looking to work for.
