Is there a way to find out which codec you need for your program to run?

My samsung digital camera video wont play with sound on the pc. I was told that it may be that I need a codec. But there are so many...is there a way to tell which one I need ?

I have windows vista by the way. I have downloaded some codec packs, and my camcorder movies now have sound in media player, but still no sound for the samsung digital camera videos.

Hi If You download vista codec pack it will work on xp.
