I know this doesnt help you much but different people have different tastes... VIVITAR do a nice compact 3 mega pixel camera in pink blue or silver for 33 quid look up reviews of cameras you are interested in, thats what i did my advise is to think what sort of camara do you need for. for example: what sort of zoom do you need (2x or 8x zoom or so)?
and what sort of function you would like to have, basic or complex. for me, i would like to have at least, basic, it has all of the functions that i need.
Also, what sort of quality you like. the best thing to do is go to a camara shop that specialising the quality of the camara. and another way that you can do is compare the differences of the quality of the camaras and the prices too. before you go on shopping around, go on the net and they have some sort of system that you can compare the prices with the camara. and again the best thing to do is find the cheapest one to most expensive one, so you can find where is the best one for you.
When you have found what you are looking for, go to the shop show it he or she show you on hand and play around with till you feel comfortable with it.
and lastly, ask many questions as you need to know, you might be feeling that you must've been buying the wrong thing. Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
