Recommend video editing..?

Make a list of the best combo of video editing equipment which includes-

Dont bother going cheap,
for the camcorder I need a handy cam type ( doesnt necessarily have to be sony anything is fine including sony )

Apple Macintosh Mac Pro Tower, fully loaded (max RAM, Terabytes of hard drive space).

Apple 30" Cinema Display HD

Apple Time Machine back up system.

Canon XHA1 or Sony HVR-V1U camcorders
Nikon D300 plus various lenses

iMovieHD 06 and FinalCut Pro studio 2

SoundTrack Pro already bundled with FinalCut Pro; Audacity (Open Source) and GarageBand (bundled with MacOSX new machine)

And about $4,000 more for tripods, additional batteries, Pelican cases, lenses for the camcorders, video lights, several different microphones, boom, LANC, light trees, and more...

This is another best of question, and in the end it comes down to what you want to do, and how much you want to spend. I am going to recommend the following for an average video producer looking to do some event videography and some movie making for fun:

PC (I prefer macs, but the Vegas editing software is not available for Mac) Quad core, 3 gigs ram,100 gig operating drive, 500 gig video drive. (Never record video onto the same drive as your editing software.)

Sony hvr-hd1000u: it's not a handycam but it will give you more stability being a shoulder mount camera. More stability = better video. It also takes very good still images and uses sony memory sticks.

Sony vegas pro 8: it is a jack of all trades editing program, incorporating effects and audio into a simple to use editing program. It's also a lot less expensive than many other professional apps.

Buy a good tripod, a couple of extra batteries and if you can afford it, some good audio equipment.

This whole package comes in under $4500. This is a professional kit. You could make decent money with this equipment.
