Nikon DSLR that will work with N70 lenses? |
I have a full assortment of 35mm lenses and accessories that I use with my Nikon N70 film camera. I love the camera, and don't want to part with it, but I would like to have the versatility of digital at times (I have a little Sony automatic digital that I love and carry with me) when shooting SLR. I'd really like to be able to just change bodies and go from film to digital and utilize the same lenses. Anybody have any thoughts? I read the post from about 10 months ago on the same topic, but digital technology changes so fast! All of my AF-D and AF-G lenses worked. I had an N65 and I bought a D50. All of my old lenses work. To be sure, you can check the compatibility on the nikon site. The only lenses that will work on the D series Nikon digital cameras are the auto focus lenses. Nikon uses the so-called F-Mount for all its analog and digital SLR cameras - ever since they introduced the F-Mount in 1959 until today. That means that virtually any Nikon Camera produced from 1959 onward can be used with virtually any Nikon lens. BUT (let me quote this from Wikipedia): "Incompatibilities do exist, however, and adventurous F-mount users should consult product documentation in order to avoid problems. In particular, many electronic camera bodies cannot meter without a "CPU" enabled lens, the aperture of G designated lenses cannot be controlled without an electronic camera body, and non-AI lenses manufactured prior to 1977 can cause mechnical damage to later model bodies unless they are modified to the AI specification." Yes, and Nikon DSLR will work with most manual Nikkor lens. Some of the bodies, with limitation. Your N70 lenses will work on any digital Nikon SLR, but you will notice a change in your focal length. It will be 1.5 times more telephoto. I have used my old lenses from my F100 on my D70, with no problems! I could even pull the manual focus lens off my FM2 and use it, but I won't have auto focus on it. If you have a N70 I am guessing that your lenses are AF lenses. I would say that all the nikon digital camera will work except that Nikon D40. The Nikon D40 doesnt have a motor drive in the camera to drive the AF in non AF-s lenses. So you are good to go on anyother nikon camera. A nikon camera and a nikon lens will mount if it was made after 1959. The F mount has not changed in that time frame. I think the D40 will use the non AF-s lenses but you wouldnt have AF on them. Good luck |
