AF 35mm SLR?

I'm having trouble looking for the best 35mm SLR on the internet, so I wanted to know from someone who can answer me directly.

I just want the best camera possible for the best money (no digital, please, I want to make specialized shots). Not just the kind of camera you've been using for years, but THE best camera that you've used IN years.

And also a lens-I'm probably going to get a 100-200mm lens depending on how much cash I can cough up, so the best one in that range for the model you recommend

I've already asked this question before, but they weren't very specific...so please be...well, you know.

Also, if you have an APS that's better than any other camera, that'll work too.

One of the great things about 35mm SLRs is that they have lost so much popularity in the last few years that high-end pro gear can be had for a fraction of the original cost when buying used.

I'd suggest first of all that you visit www.keh.com, which is one of the top used equipment dealers, with an excellent selection and very reasonable prices.

As for specific suggestions, I can offer two. I would suggest looking at either a Canon EOS-3 or Nikon F100. Both of these are fairly recent designs, and, when they were still in production, were the next step down from the pro level EOS-1V and F5.

Because of this, they are less expensive, but more importantly, they weigh a whole heck of a lot less. If you wish, though, you can add auxiliary battery grips to either in order to beef up their size some.

Either of these should cost under $400 used, and will serve you well for many years to come.

There are a lot of good used 35mm SLR's out there.

Look for Nikon's or Canon's in your local camera stores or camera repair store. You should be able to find a good used 80-200mm lens that should suit your needs.

I have seen those brands for under $200 with a normal lens. Also do a search for those cameras on craigslist for cameras in your area.

Maybe you didn't get a specific answer because your question isn't very specific. Start with what type of photography and what type of specialized shots, maybe? What is your budget?

I have a Canon EOS 1v. With a 200 mm prime lens (non-zoom) that comes to about $4,800 USD. Not a bad price. Do you mean something like that? Or do you mean something like a Canon EOS 35 mm Rebel with Auto Focus starting around $200 something with a Sigma 70-200 mm zoom for a total around $900.00 USD? With a Tamron 70-300 mm, you could put an outfit together for around $350 - $400.

Being able to get the camera over the internet isn't a criteria. You can get any camera over the internet, including cameras in the $30,000 to $40,000 range.

Rule #1 of question asking: Ask vague, non-specific questions, expect vague answers.

Don't buy the best 35 mm film camera at the best price, buy the 35 mm film camera that does what you need it to do at the best price.

If you buy a camera that has capabilities that you will so rarely use that it might as well be never, you've wasted money.

Just a thought.

How's this for specific.

The Nikon N90s.

I have one and use it for a backup to my digital bodies. All the AF-D lenses I have work on both, plus the SB-600 speedlight I have works on both - double bonus.

Aftermarket accessories can still be found. I got an N90s, SB-22 and 35-70mm f/3.3 lens for $150.
