What kind of lens to buy? |
I want to start taking pictures.. well just have better camera. I want one of those long big cameras. But I think I can only afford a film camera, I only want to spend like 300. But I want a realy close zooming lens as well. I used a camera the other day, had a 80mm-300 lens I beleive. does the more MM mean more zooming? save up and get a dSLR. more mm = better zoom. just because it's a 300mm lens doesn't mean that it's good. quality of glass is more important than focal length. without knowing a brand it's impossible to suggest a lens. Well, I personally would not spend 300 for a film camera, as they are pretty much being phased out, thus the cheaper prices. I have a digital SLR and LOVE it... I am still learning all of hte cool features, and the lenses are expensive, but it is the best investment. There is a category of digital cameras called Semi-Pro. Basically, they have most of the programmable features of an SLR, but are all-in-one like a point and shoot. The 2 best cameras in this line are the Sony DSC-H5, and the Canon Powershot S3. Both cameras have image stabilization and high MP, and both come with a movie mode as well. I know people with both cameras and they both love them and they produce excellent images. The optical lens zoom on both is equivalent to about 400mm on a film camera. The link below will give you a better idea of different cameras out there, and you can compare images taken with 2 different cameras for an idea of image quality. Methinks you would do better to start at the bottom. Learn your craft first, then figure out what gear you need. People often use long lenses when all they need to do is move closer to the subject. The longer the lens (i.e. mm) the more difficult it is to hold steady and get sharp shots. You then need a tripod, unless you can afford a Vibration Reduction or Image Stabilization model and then you are in mega buck territory. |
