SLR and Normal ?

I intend to buy a digital camera pretty soon. Could someone please tell me what is the difference between a normal camera and a digital camera? Also is it always advisable to buy a camera that produces pics wth greater megapixels ? What features should I look for in a good camera ?

go to howstuffworks.com
you will see how each one is made

dude today only i had ordered one. i did some reasonable research on tht.

digital camera will give you good result but if your use is going to be more on photography and outside natural scene pics tht i would suggest go 4 SLR... it gives u really nice result and also the shutter time is also less compare to other camaras

I had orders cannon one they r good with Kodak

cheers

A film camera takes pictures on film which then must be developed and printed. A digital camera takes pictures that are stored in memory, then you transfer them to you computer, and you can print them yourself or send them out to be printed.

'Megapixels' refers to the resolution of a digital camera. More is better, all things being equal (but they usually aren't). 5 megapixels is plenty for 8x10 prints. Most cameras today have more, which is good. Film cameras don't have megapixels.

SLR means 'single lens reflex'. It is a camera where you look in the viewfinder and see the actual image seen by the lens. Usually an SLR has a mirror that reflects the image to the viewfinder. The mirror is on a hinge, and when you take the picture the mirror flips up out of the way. This can cause the camera to shake a little bit, so you can't use as low of a shutter speed as you can with a non-SLR camera.

SLRs are best for 35mm, but digital cameras are different. In a digital camera the picture is being taken by a little 'video' camera and the viewfinder shows a tiny video screen showing exactly what this camera is seeing. So the advantage of an SLR is not as much as with a film camera. But with a digital SLR the area of the chip that takes the image is bigger, which makes it easier to get more megapixels. Also you can get interchangeable lenses (which is nice, but expensive).

The features you want are different on a film camera than a digital camera. For a digital camera you want lots of megapixels. I would say it was nice to have AA batteries rather than a proprietary battery because you can carry an extra set in your pocket. Some cameras have very wide zoom ranges, which is nice (and eliminates the need for interchangeable lenses to some extent). My digital camera has image stabilization, which is a very nice feature, it eliminates 'camera shake' at low shutter speeds or long zooms. Most digital cameras can take film clips too, and some do this better than others.

Finally you get down to features you want based on how you plan to use the camera. Do you want a little tiny camera you can fit in your pocket? Do you want manual modes as well as automatic modes? If you could go to Best Buy or Circuit City and hold the cameras in your hands you'd find that some just feel better, the controls are easier to use.

When you get down to a choice between a few, check out dpreview.com. They have reviews and articles about every digital camera including test pics that you can download and zoom in and look at.
