Assist with off-camera flash . . . anyone?

I have a Pentax D10 digital SLR, my first digital, and I love it! But it has a built-in flash that I hate. I'd like to use my Vivitar 2600 EF unit, with bracket, about 4" above the camera's hot shoe.

Can anyone here out-do "Gritz" Camera and tell me what I need? The D10 has no "X"-sync socket.

Check the owner's manual and disable the flash, as Zoivic said, then get an attachment that fits on your hot shoe and has a flash sync socket on it. You can buy these at camera shops. Then connect the socket to your flash with a short lead.

Check your owner's manual, it should tell you how to disable the built-in flash.

Good luck my friend.

There is a hot shoe attachment that can be placed on a flash that will discharge the flash when another flash goes off. It is usually used for fill flash. If you use that attachment on your Vivitar, then you could block the camera flash so that it does not flash on your subject, but on the flash that you prefer to use.
