I was thinking of buying a Nikon D80...?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D80-Digital-SL...
Is this a good price for what im getting?

I would rather see you go to B&H Photo - available through a link on Yahoo! Shopping - and search for "Nikon D80" and buy this kit for $1,169.95.

Nikon D80, 10.2 Megapixel, SLR Digital Camera with Nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens and Two SanDisk 2GB Ultra II Secure Digital (SD) Cards

You will see the same kit without any memory cards for $50 less on the same page, but $50 is a great price for the cards and you will need at least one anyhow.

We had someone here last week who had purchased from the seller you are viewing and they switched them from a Nikon lens to a Sigma lens when they shipped. I would not trust them.

Besides, the 28-80 is more typical of a lens for a FILM camera than a digital camera. The standard kit lens for the D80 (and many other DSLR's) is 18-55. This gives the 35 mm equivalent of 27-82.5, which you see is about identical the the lens they are showing in this auction.

You would not be very satisfied with having 28 mm as your widest lens on a D80, as the 35 mm equivalent is 42 mm, which some people consider a "normal" lens on a 35 mm!

If you want to stay under your budget, look a bit down the page and you'll find a D80 with the usual 18-55 lens for $999.95. You still need to get a decent card for $30-40. If you DO go for this, consider adding the new Nikon 55-200 _VR_ lens for $250. My wife has this and it's a bargain at the price.

Think carefully before choosing this seller or this kit on eBay. The one lens is an odd size for digital, they switched to another brand on someone else here, and most of the "kit" they have thrown together is next to useless.

You're welcome and happy shopping! Report It

I would guess that the camera and lenses are "gray market" at the price you have been quoted.

There are a number of items in the "Kit" that should send off alarms.

First the Titanium .45x Wide Angle Lens is useless on a DSLR ... they were designed for point and shoot cameras.

The fluorescent filter is completely unnecessary since the Nikon (and really all digital cameras) have a setting in the menu that allows the photographer to adjust for fluorescent lighting.

Deluxe video & photo tripod and table top tripod are toys.

The USB Secure Digital Card Reader is unusable on a notebook computer because of its design.

Unless your ship your cameras the Heavy Duty Aluminum Hard Case may become just a paper weight or door stop.

Here is a link to the specs on the D80 and you will see that the eBay price is not believeable for a US warranteed camera and lenses

I would have to agree with fhotoace and Dr Sam. If something looks too good to be true then it usually is. I would add that the flash does not look like it would work in any of Nikon's excellent flash modes, and the memory card looks like a nast gray market copy of a name brand.

I own and love my D80 and thoroughly recommend it, but this is not how I would go about acquiring one.
