Is this legit?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D80-Digital-SL...

Sure, it's legit. It's clearly labeled a Factory Demo and they are selling it with Sigma lenses and not Nikon lenses. The vendor feedback is very good. The 1-year warranty might be through Nikon (I doubt it.) or Mack (Possible.) or through the store itself.

"You get what you pay for." I've bought refurbs with NO PROBLEM at all, but I think you would be happier buying at least one Nikon lens instead of two Sigma lenses. B&H and Adorama sell factory demos and refurbs, also. Maybe this eBay seller also has kits with a demo D80 and a refurb lens, if you are looking to save some money.

Often, "refurbs" are just returned merchandise that can't be sold as new or items that were used in a camera store as a demonstrator. These cameras are fine and never had anything wrong with them. I've bought a couple without problems. Some refurbs are cameras that actually needed a repair, but they are repaired and certified by the factory to be as good as new and they should come with a warranty. Do not buy a refurb if it is not a "factory refurb" item. Although a refurb should come with a 90-day or 1 year manufacturer's warranty, you can buy third party warranty for 5 years for about $40-50. (You can do this for new equipment, also.) This may not be a bad idea if you are buying an "upscale" refurb. It would still cost a lot less than a new item in most cases.

You can find refurbs at rebutable dealers on eBay, such as Cameta Auctions; or at B&H Photo or Adorama (both available through Yahoo! Shopping), among other places.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the camera, so congratulations. Report It

Yea, its legit, but why not just buy it at bestbuy?

If you look at the seller's feedback it is pretty good and you can see that they have sold a few of these outfits and got good feedback from the buyers.

HOWEVER, notice that it says that they give a 1 year "Store Warranty" on the camera. That probably means that it is not covered by Nikon's warranty and would have to be sent back to the store for warranty repairs instead of Nikon.

I'm not sure how the price compares to a new D80 but if it wasn't much different I'd get a new one. Also notice that you are getting Sigma lenses instead of Nikon brand lenses.

I wouldn't do it, personally. The guy who mentioned the in-store warranty is right... Nikon won't touch the camera if it needs repairing. And unless you live in Brooklyn, shipping the camera to them for repair won't be cheap. I doubt it would be worth the money you would save!

You can buy a BRAND NEW one with a NIKON lens and a US warranty for $1099.
