Would like to purchase best monopod for camera. Anybody have any suggestions? Bogen ? Brand doesn't really matter. What you need is a model rated to support the weight you will be putting on it. Check your camera/lens manuals and tally up the weight and then go with the monopod model that will handle it.
It is very important to get one with a quick release, otherwise the 'pod is stuck to the camera until you unscrew it.
Don't be fooled by monopods for "digital" if you use a DSLR. A model that can handle the weight of a DSLR can also handle a film SLR, since the weight of the body is pretty close.
If you shoot a P&S, then get a monopod that weighs the least; you won't be needing one that supports 10 lbs. so a light-duty model will be fine.
Personally I tried a Bogen but one of the quick releases on the sections broke after one use. The didn't honor the warranty since it was "customer abuse," which was untrue.
Just go with an inexpensive brand to start. You can always upgrade. Better than making my mistake of going high-end at first only to have wasted the $$. I prefer Bogen. I like there quick release plates and its a sturdy tripod. I have had one for about 10yrs and its still working just fine. I've used one of these by Manfrotto for about 7 years. Very sturdy.
It stays in the back seat of my SUV all of the time.
