I am looking for help buying a digital camera?

i am looking to spend up to $700aud as i want something that will be able to do all that my current minolta slr does.
help would be gratefully appreacited.

It could be tough to meet your expectations for that money, but I really do not know what things are selling for in Australia, so I will give my standard "entry level DSLR" recommendation.

Get a Nikon D50. It has a few "consumer friendly" automatic modes that make it very easy to use, but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. The "kit" lens is a decent lens optically, but you might want to upgrade to the Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G ED DX lens for a bit more range and a lot more durability. When you are ready to add lenses, the sky is the limit with Nikon.

Get a 1 GB memory card, such as the Sandisk "Ultra" for decent write speed.

If you already have minolta lenses, you may want to take a look at the Sony Alpha A100 because I am pretty sure it is backwards compatible to use Konica minolta leneses. I doubt you can get it for $700 aud though.

In fact, I doubt you will be able to find any new digital SLR camera for that price. Your best budget option might be the Pentax K100D or, for an extra US $100, the Pentax K110D with image stabilization.
