Hi - Looking for a digital camera in New York,any recommendations of stores/websites/even brands to check out?

I'm not too good at the lingo, but I'm basically looking for a good value camera, willing to pay up to around $300. Want something compact and easy to use with a good battery and obviously good quality - possibly SLR, although I've never used one before. Any suggestions on a good one? ~I don't have much time to browse, just in NY for a few days, and I'm not good on the lingo - what should I look out for?

Just don鈥檛 get caught up the chase for big pixel numbers - it can be a waste of cash. Unless you have a printer that can print larger than 8 X 10 you really don鈥檛 need a camera with more than 4 or 5 mega-pixels. ALSO, many cameras out there have great mega-pixel numbers and then have tiny crappy lenses. A good quality lens and smaller mega-pixels will take a better picture. Fuji makes a fine 5 MP camera in your price range. You can get it a Wal-Mart. The link is below.

Ok, your budget is a great indicator of what you need versus what you think you want. Many Digital SLRs are very expensive and SLRs, by design, are bulky. If you are not a professional photographer you really dont need one. If you use the camera for recreational purposes you should look into getting a Sony Cybershot or a Canon Powershot. I personally do professional photography and still use my Sony Cybershot 7.2 Megapixels. Its small, easy to use, and has plenty of MP to blow up shots. You may also want to invest in a large Memory Stick of 1GB or more so you can take photos for an extended period without worrying about running out of space. You should check out Bestbuy.com for some of the best prices around this holiday season. They always have sales.
