I want both Auto and Manual Focus Options
I want to have manual options for most everything (shutter, f stop, etc)
Auto Settings are a plus (Night, Landscape, Fireworks, Portrait, etc)
Having the Option to attach different lenses is a huge plus, Im going to be taking lots of outdoor pictures in the mountains and of wildlife So i want to have big time zoom capability.
I also want to be able to attach filters for UV, etc.
Im also going to be using the camera for indoor pictures: family, party, etc.
SLR would ve nice but not required

The price is $630 but you want to make movies with sound also so this one is worth buying.

I suggest you get a 1GB or 2GB SD card for your digital stills

I don't know if you can get lenses for this camera/camcorder.
I don't know if you can get filters for this either.

One zoom lens alone will cost over $1,000.
I use a canon rebel xt which is a digital slr and was looking for the image stabilizer and zoom lens, the avg. price for that one lens is $1,500 US.

The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.

the guide should answer your questions I suggest you check out the Pentax K100, this is a 6 mega pixel digital slr. You can get this camera at Wolf, Ritz, Best Buy or Circuit City for about $599. with an 18 to 55 mm lens. Vibration reduction is built into the body of the camera so any lens you attach will have Vibration Reduction. You can also pick up the Pentax 55 to 200mm zoom for $199 to $249. And if you check the Pentax web site I believe they are still offering a $150 rebate with the purchase of the K100 and the 55 to 200mm zoom.
It has all the settings you are looking for plus some. And you will be well under your $1000 budget.
