In regards to digital cameras, what the following mean?,,, 12 X optical & 2 X digital? Also, ? SLR?

Optical zoom is "true zoom", and digital is more like in-camera cropping. 12x means that from the widest angle to the narrowest there is a difference in magnification of 12. Don't bother with digital zoom. 2x just means it crops the picture to half size!!! SLR means "single lens reflex". It's the kind of cameras with the interchangeable lenses. When you look through the viewfinder, you're actually looking through the lens.

the 12x optical is the zoom so it zooms out 12 times farther than if you just snaped a picture the 2x digital means that it will zoom another 2 times but youre lense wont move. but i am not sure what slr means sorry!

SLR - Means "Single-Lense Reflex"

SLR cameras have a reflex mirror that swings up when you press the shutter button. It allows light from the lens to pass through to the sensor. The picture is then recorded. Since a single lens and a reflex mirror are used, this type of camera is called "single-lens reflex" (SLR).

12 X optical is the actual zoom.. it zooms 12 times as far as your eye can see. The 2X is how much it will digitally enlarge the photo.. twice. Always go with more optical zoom.

SLR cameras have the lenses you can interchange.. remove one and add another for longer range, etc.
