Shopping around for a digital slr, can you help?

I need a dslr. It would be my first purchaice of a professional quality camera, and was interested to see if you had any suggestions or thoughts about the such cameras.
I would greatly appretiate any kind of advice on the process, any web-pages particularly for digital cameras.
Any recomendations for books would be great as well.

In particular I will need to take photos of food. Any suggestions?

I have a Canon Rebel XT.

Good choices are the Canon Rebel XTi, Nikon D40 / D80, or the Sony A100 at the entry level.

Next step up would be Canon 30D or Nikon D200

I bought a Pentax k100d after a two month research. I Looked up camera review.There are good web pages that specialize in camera review.I choose This camera because in the review it was highly recommended it has image stabilization built right in the camera ,so any lens will work with this..camera is a 6 mp but is great. And the price was 780 including s&h and i live in Puerto Rico.
