Whats the difference between digital slr and slr-like cameras?

The difference between the two is

Digital SLR (DSLR) are digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras, that record the images on a chip. Metering is done through the lens. Lenses are interchangeable. Meaning you can use lenses of different focal lengths. Viewfinder Image is also seen through the lens giving greater advantage than with a separate view finder

SLR (Single lens Reflex Camera) - records the image on film. Again the metering is done through the lens and lenses are interchangeable.

SLR Like - is used by some manufacturers as amarketing tool. sounds better than compact.
What it means is that the design is like an SLR, but its functionality is different. The difference being, that the lenses are not interchangeable and metering is not necessarily done through the lenses but outside. The image you can see through viewfinder with a digital SLR is also not through the lens, but separate and then digitally enhanced, which has certain disadvantages

either it is a film loading SLR or a digital SLR or no SLR

SLR 'like' usually means that the camera fits in your hand like the body of a traditional SLR camera. Handholding an SLR body feels more ergonomically correct compared to other compact cameras. It in no way means that the camera is actually an SLR, or, a camera which accepts different lenses.

there is no such a thing as slr like. it's either slr or it's a point-and-shoot. If you're talking about the cameras that kinda look like SLRs, but the lenses don't come off, then you'd be kidding yourself -- it's a point-and-shoot.
