Is that a good camera for like motocross/skateboarding/bmx?? go for it, you will need a bigger lens if you want your subjects to fill the frame particularly if they are in the air or you cant get to close, 200mm would be helpful Absolutely. This would be one of your best possible choices.
(The Canon Rebel XTi) Yes it's a highly recommended camera. The images are like butter smooth. You might want to shop around for the best online price though. Your selection of a Canon Rebel XT for some $800 is a poor choice for the following reasons:
1) There's no "image stabilization," so any slight movement on your part will blur the picture;
2) It only comes with a limited range normal lense of 18-55 mm. So, where's the telephoto so you can get really close to the action?
3) This 10.0 mp camera will have considerable shutter lapse between each picture due to processing the image onto the memory device. You have to wait and miss those fast moving once-in-a-lifetime jump shots.
4) And finally, the RebelXT does not have any video recording capability, no sound - nada. Isn't skateboarding a "moving" sport? Not just a series of still images!
5) So, is there a better alternative - YES!
Should you want an all-in-one 6.1 mp digital camera with a 36 to 432 mm "image stabilized" zoom lens, with stereo sound video capability, and you can afford $339, it's the Canon Powershot S3IS.
