What is the Compact Digital Camera with the widest dynamic range?

In SLR Cameras, maybe Fuji FinePix S3 has the widest dynamic range at this time. Does anybody know what is the Compact Digital Camera with the widest dynamic range?

For digital SLRs, the FinePix S3 shares that honor with the Sigma S3pro. Unfortunately, the effective resolution of those cameras is only 6MP and there is little hope for a speedy update.
I imagine Fuji wins the compact segment too, but I don't have anything to back that up. Well, just that Fuji partners with Foveon :-)

Firstly there is a difference between compact digital camera and a Digital SLR. The Fuji Finepix S3 is a Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) Camera where you can change the lenses and has the same technology as a film camera.

The best compact camera according to me would be Canon IXUS range. Canon cameras have a lot better lenses and the DIGIC II processor which processes the image. You can't compare the quality of Canon Cameras with any other camera.

Depending on the features you want in a camera, the IXUS range are a lot quicker (meaning - not much delay in taking pictures) ie focusing, saving into memory card, flash charging. But these cameras don't have manual control over the exposure.

If you want manual control as well, then the Canon PowerShot range are the best cameras. Bit bulky but full of features that you might be interested in.
