What is the cheapest slr professional digital camera?

What is the cheapest slr professional digital camera?

I am not sure what you mean by "professional." Most pros using a Nikon digital are probably using a D2 (although I think the D200 will be a backup body for many working photogs). Those are all fairly pricey bodies (good values for what you get but...).

I would first look at the Canon Digital Rebel XT, the D70 and the D50. If you have more money, I would look at the Canon 20d and the Nikon D200.

But, with DSLRs, I think lenses are the most important part of the package. If I had to skimp, I would skimp on a body knowing that they will constantly improve while pro glass purchased now will still be great in ten years.

A few clarifications: B&H is a Nikon dealer (they also sell grey market as well as USA equipment). The USA stuff has the full warranty and qualifies for the appropriate rebates. The grey market is equivalent products but does not have the USA warranty but does have a B&H warranty. I buy tons of stuff from them and they have always treated me right (any bodies and lenses are USA).

Finally, I would suggest you look at a site like dpreview.com -- it offers very complete reviews, sample photos and an active discussion areas for major topics (i.e., one just for nikon lenses, etc.)

Around $760, if you aren't sure which one you are looking for a good place to start is Cnet Reviews, http://reviews.cnet.com/Digital_cameras/... but the best prices can be found at Bizrate, http://www.bizrate.com/

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, but the Nikon D50 is a very good entry-level DSLR that runs around $630 for the body only. If you want something more advanced, try the Nikon D200 ($1,700 body) or Canon 20D ($900 body). There's a model in between the D50 and D200, the Nikon D70S ($800 body), but from what I've heard, is just like the D50.

aaplgeek: i am glad you found my site useful!(lol) but though the d70 is just like the d50 the d70 is more compact, i have never shot with one so i don't know about the features. I am in love with my d50. It's very nice, dependable, long lasting, and the best part, it takes very good pictures. This camera (d50) could run you $650 WITH A LENS!!! it all depends on where you buy it from. http://www.bhphotovideo.com has some nice deals, now they aren't an official nikon dealer so i am not sure what comes with it. I use bh for mainly accesories and not the camera itself

Boneaire is correct, I would definately do a little research on DPReview.com. If you are just starting out and don't want to spend to much, I would also suggest getting the 300D. The 350D is the its replacment, but hte 300D works just as good. Currently you can get this camera used for $400. Check out FredMiranda.com. They have a section in their forums to buy and sell camera equipment, and I have gotten quite a few good deals.
