Whats the difference in the creation of a picture between a SLR camera and a digital camera? |
Whats the difference in the creation of a picture between a SLR camera and a digital camera? In a digital camera, the image enters the lens and shines on an electronic imaging sensor. The light causes electrical changes to numerous picture elements (pixels) arranged in a grid, and the changes (or the light values) are recorded as a digital image. In an SLR, at the moment a picture is taken, a mirror flips out of the way, a shutter allows light to fall upon the fim, and the image through the lens makes chemical changes on the emulsion on standard 35mm film. In color film there are different layers, each sensitive to various colors. In order to be viewed, the film must be chemically processed, during which the subtle changes induced by the light bring in colored dyes that make either a "positive" or naturally colored image (as in slide film) or a "negative" reverse-colored image that has to be further processed for photographs. SLR uses film and Digital uses a card or internal memory The single-lens reflex (SLR) camera is a type of camera that uses a movable mirror placed between the lens and the film to project the image seen through the lens to a matte focusing screen while a Digital camera (regular digital camera or Digital SLR camera) uses either a CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) or a CMOS sensor, i.e. chips comprised of a grid of phototransistors to sense the light intensities across the plane of focus of the camera lens. Just to clarify: You can have a digital slr camera, this is not just a 'film thing'. |
