Whats the best digital SLR camera?

If you stick with either Canon or Nikon dslr- you can't go wrong.I am a Nikon dslr user and I have friends who uses Canon dslr. I tell you my pictures are as good as theirs and their pictures are as good as mine. It all boils down to ergonomics. Go to a big box electronic store and play around with either Nikon or Canon dslr. Feel how it handles, its weight, the placement of the controls, look into the viewfinder, check the lcd display etc. You can also try to bring in your own memory card and with the store's permission try the cameras that interest you and then check on your computer which one made the better picture. Don't rush- take your time in deciding which one will be better for you.

I cant comment on all manufacturers, as Ive not used them but I find canon to be the best out of those I have tried.

I have used both the 350d and now the 30d, and they've both been excellent. Intuitive layout, great custom functions and a huge range of compatible lenses and accessories.

You can go as cheap or as expensive as you want to, and still get great quiality.

Nikon and Canon would be good choices, since they are what the pros use.

Go to a camera store and hold a few samples of each and see which fits you hands and your style of shooting the best.

I think we are assuming you have used film SLR cameras for a while but don't have lenses that are compatible with the above mentioned cameras. If you already have Nikon or Canon glass then the answer is simple. Get a matching DSLR camera
