Should I get a Nikon D-200?

Am thinking of buying this camera, but it has been awhile since it came out and wondering how the industry has changed with regards to new models, etc. And also is where to get a camera online. When I considered getting the D-200, it was like 579$ online and 1500$ in stores. Thanks for all information. I heard Sony has a nice SLR now, so I need some Industry Insider help.

Be careful with that $579 retailer. They will try like HELLLL to "up-sell" you buy insisting you get the extended warranty, this and that....and before you know it the cost is $1,000. The Nikon D-300 just came out a few months ago and is priced at about $1,700. (body only) but has 12.1 MP. I think if you are willing to wait another year or so, the D-300 will also drop in price.

The D200 is old technology, if you can afford it go for a D300, having said that the D200 that I had was a fine piece of equipment and very difficult to fault.

Have a look at the sites below for some guidance.

Good Luck

Since this is your first DSLR, the D200 is a fine camera. I still have one D100 which I still use as a backup camera.

Spend your money investing in lenses ... they will last for decades. DSLR's on the other hand have to be replaced every three to four years.

For a few hundred dollars more, you can have a D300. Here is a comparison of the two.
