Whats the advantages and disadvantages to buying a SLR digital camera overseas (specifically in Asia)?

I am an aspiring graphic designer, armature photographer in the US, my dad is going on a business trip to Asia and I figured he might be able to find me a good deal on a digital camera while over there. What I need to know is are there going to be any problems with it working with the software (Adobe Suite, etc.) over here. I'm not converned with the warranty issue, as that has already been brought to my attention. Any help? He leaves pretty soon so the sooner the request the better, ANYTHING IS HELPFUL at this point! Thanks

Depends on the camera. If you are in Japan, and buying from a reputable dealer, you might get the real thing, and not a knockoff. You will pay as much or more as you would here because of the exchange rate, possible taxes, and then of course customs. Furthermore, you will find it a lot harder to get warranty service on the camera if you buy it overseas! Bottom line:don't do it. Buy it here.Software is not even a consideration, wherever you buy the camera, provided the camera is the genuine article, and a name brand. Some of the better bodies even come with some Adobe software, like the new Mamiya digital.

Typically, its because of the exchange rate. With the current market, it will be much harder, if not impossible, to get a better deal in Asia now. Another reason is that many Asian cameras are produced and the cost to import them is not added when purchased overseas.
