You might want to take a look at an old Nikon FG. I've had mine for the better part of 20 years, including a year in Kuwait and Iraq, and it still takes GREAT pics. You can put it in manual mode, or play with various stages of automatic settings.

I'm sure you could pick one up off ebay for under $100, and you'll love it.

Minolta XE-7. Its a real brick - 27 ounces without a lens. Feels solid and substantial in the hand, very nicely balanced.

Has Aperture Priority or Manual Metering, multiple exposure capability, -1 to +2 EV in 1/2 stop increments and was modified (lens mount, metering system) and sold as the Leica R-3. Minolta ROKKOR-X lenses were among the very best in their day and are still a worthy investment. The later MD 35-70mm f3.5 and 70-210mm f4 constant aperture zooms were re-badged and sold by Leica, as was the Minolta ROKKOR-X 16mm f2.8 full-frame fisheye.

Canon EOS Rebel K2 35mm SLR Camera with EF 28 to 90mm II USM Lens.

try canon a560

I have to agree with the Pentax K1000. The camera's built like a tank, very forgiving when it comes to being used ALOT. The batteries are cheaper, and last MUCH longer.

I love my Canon EOS T2 - don't get me wrong. But I found my better work came from the K1000. I also have a Canon AE1 which would also suit your purposes.

I found both the Pentax K1000 and the Canon AE1 at thrift stores. The K1000 was $10 for body, 35-70mm lens, and a flash, and the AE1 was $30 for the body, a pretty fast 50mm prime lens (f1.8), a 35-70 zoom, and a flash. If you invest some time in looking around thrift stores, many people donate perfectly useful and operational cameras and the Goodwills/Salvation Army places have no clue what the cameras are really worth.
