What Camera Would You Recommend?

I am wanting a professional-quality digital SLR with interchangeable lenses. With all of the options that are available, I was hoping to get some recommendations from those who have experience with your favorite camera. Thanks in advance!

First, I'll admit I have no experience with either of these cameras. However, I can read and do read reviews. I've always been one to seek the very most for my money so I'll suggest these cameras:

Sony A200 or A300 or A350. Sony has their version of Image Stabilization in the camera body. So, you never need to pay for it when you buy a lens. The Sony DSLR family can use every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 and they will AF since the AF drive motor is in the camera body. So you never need to pay for AF for it when you buy a lens.

Pentax K10D or K20D. Pentax has their version of IS in the body - so the same applies here as stated about Sony. Every Pentax K-mount AF lens will mount to these cameras - again, see the Sony comments.

Most everyone else will tell you Nikon D40x or canon XTi or XTs but neither has IS in the body and will only AF with certain lenses which have an AF motor.

I think you would be wise to visit digitalcameraguide.com and read actual reviews of all 4 cameras and decide for yourself. While you're there, you may as well look at Olympus and Fuji and Sigma.

If you're unfamiliar with all the digital camera terminology, visit dpreview.com and on the left of your screen click LEARN/GLOSSARY for an explanation of terms.

Good luck and happy shopping.

I went with Olympus. Olympus has been making cameras for decades and makes some great DSLR's. The quality is definately profession grade.

Olympus designed all of its lenses from the ground up to be used on digital cameras. The anti shake is in the camera body, so all lenses will be anti shake, not just some of them.

Aside from the quality of the images, I also liked the value. Olympus is considered a better value since they are priced a little better than the competition. The money saved help me buy those accessories you need to go along with camera, like memory cards, extra battery, filters, carry case, tripod, etc. I know that Nikon, Canon and Sony are the three biggest, but there is a reason Olympus has seen its market share grow.

I would redomend the canon 40d, it is a great camera, has a metal alloy body, there are a great rande of lenses for canon that are avalable.

If you have a large enough bidget the canon 5d has an even better inage sensor than the 40d, but is heaps more expencive.

They are both professional cameras, if you are using it daly all day everey day i would go for the 5d, otherwise if it just gets heaps of regular use you can't go past the 40d

I have Canon Rebel XT and find it as simple as point and shoot and as versatile as you want it to be. To start taking good pics you don't have to study the manual for hours. It is versatile enough to do anything you want to spend the time to learn about. The standard settings will be enough to produce great pics. The creative settings let you get as deep as you like into the mechanics of different pictures. I have used the camera at work for about 4 yrs and had to have one at home. NO PROBLEMS. The battery seems to hold a charge for LONG time.

Hope this helps.
