What port is this on the side of my laptop? |
I have a port on the side of my laptop and I'd like to know what it is for. It would be easier if I had a digital camera but I will try to describe it in some detail. The diameter is almost exactly the same as ps/2. It has 2 holes on the left and 2 holes on the right. The bottom two holes are slightly closer to the sides than the top two. The shape is slightly mushroom shaped, probably to keep the orientation right. There is a small rectangular hole in the stem of the mushroom (probably for a plastic orientation pin). There is also a slight indentation at the tippy top. Hopefully this will ring a bell for someone. It is also labelled enigmatically S-> on the laptop. Any ideas? Thanks tuffsubject, you'll get best answer for your quick response once the waiting period is over. S-Video output. S-Video for TV-Out connections. So you can view your laptop on a TV. S-Video output - it MAY require a special cable (from your laptop manufacturer) that was probably included, and it may also give you composite video as well. This is so you can hook up a TV to the laptop and view the laptop screen on a TV (great if you have a DVD-ROM/RW drive in there and want to watch DVDs on the TV and not the laptop!). You could even hook it up to a VCR and record your screen. It's just a "video" output from your laptop screen. It's an S-Video output. You can use it to connect your laptop to your tv. Some laptops even support video input through this port. If you want you can connect it to your VCR or DVR and record yourself running your programs. Or show off your gaming skills on a huge plasma TV in the livingroom.:) Hi, |
